This is America. Constitutionally, we have a democratic government “of the people, by the people, and for the people“. How, we as individuals, experience democracy has varied over the years. We are at a point today where many have serious concerns – our jobs, our freedoms, our financial well being, our political leadership, our role as a nation in the world. This is a blog to explore this topic from all perspectives.
My name is Ron. I am a retired research physicist and this is my first attempt at a blog. I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s, and enjoyed a successful career through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Over the last several years I have become more and more concerned about what seems to be happening to democracy in America. Retirement has given me time to think, read and consider the causes for the change.
My basic premise is that democracy is not functioning as effectively as it has in the past. I believe that it is critical that citizens talk, share opinions and views, and discuss possible options. This blog is my attempt to contribute to this process. What I offer is the benefit of personal experience, decades of hindsight and years of thinking and forming opinions about the current situation.
My intent is to provide a mechanism for sharing thoughts and ideas with similarly concerned citizens. All views are welcome and friendly argument is welcome. I specifically do not want this blog to be a political debate or politically biased, however. This is the intent but realistically these are topics that have political proponents with strong and widely varying views. Further, the intent is not to deal with the week-to-week political events/issues, but to stick with the long view. It took a decade or 2 to get here and it will take as long or longer to get back on track.
All views, perspectives and comments are encouraged. By sharing we can all refine our own views. My intent is to post a new topic once a week (Monday morning), while responding to comments on earlier topics on an ongoing basis.
I will manage the blog postings. I will post weekly but will consider guest posts with new topics. Send any proposed post to me using the contact form. I will respond directly with any questions. Of course comments on all posts are encouraged and welcome.
